ShoreView Sauna and gym

This space was an unfinished part of the clients walkout basement, with creative design ideas including adding a window to bring in natural light, it now functions perfectly, as a beautiful workout space with custom cedar sauna to help warm up those cold Minnesota winters.

Fun, Family Basement

This 1930’s home had a large, unfinished basement with excellent potential. Moving the furnace allowed for all the utilities to be confined in the laundry room creating space for a home office. The family wanted to keep a portion of the space open for a ping pong table, games and a home entertainment area. A Cedar sauna was custom built into an unused corner behind the stairs. A bathroom was added including a walk in shower room with glass screen, digital controls and full articulated shower head. Heated floors and towel radiator chase off the biting cold of a Minnesota basement. The Cedar plank ceiling ties into the theme of the sauna. On the other side of the stairs the home gym has the same ceiling. An egress window was added to the gym room creating more light and accommodating the need for a bedroom in the future, increasing the value of the home. Commercial carpet was used throughout the basement to accommodate high traffic and gym equipment.

PLAYHOUSE

Building codes are particular about fireproofing storage areas under stairs. This design meets requirements and transforms the often underused space into a cozy playhouse with a half door and window. Headroom is just right for pint-sized users (or harried parents who want to hide out).

NO SWEAT!

Thanks to Wise Design, these Twin Cities homeowners now can enjoy a vigorous workout and intense sauna followed by cool beverages.

The project transformed an unfinished area of the large walkout basement into a sunny exercise area, sauna and bath. It also carved out a portion of the previously finished space for a dramatic wet bar with a Jurassic Black Granite top that complements the brickwork. Philip raised the bar-height top on custom stainless steel standoff brackets, a design he perfected in London. He also integrated the maple-wrapped structural post with the bar.

The remodeling features a custom-sized Helo sauna and Luxury Vinyl Tile floor with real grout lines.

Industrial Penthouse Condo

This Minneapolis Penthouse Condo has high beamed ceilings made of Doug Fir, Concrete floors and charming brick walls. Wise Design & Remodel was contracted to help add the finishing touches – Primary suite, Primary bedroom and a walk in closet along with update quartz kitchen counters, floating shelves with a marble herringbone backsplash to boot.

TEAL IN THE REVEAL

This Minneapolis basement, included a 3/4 bath and fun wet bar with nostalgic elements adding a fun element.

BLOOMINGTON BASEMENT

We turned this unfinished basement into a clean and functional living space. Along with improving the energy efficiency of the home.

RELAX

Installing a custom Sauna in your basement is a wonderful treat in the cold winter days of Minnesota. This Helo Sauna with smoked glass enclosure and led lighting looks the part and has plenty of bench space to lay back and relax.

Contemporary maple lockers and bench for changing and a wet bar with plenty of space to entertain and enjoy a refreshment after your workout.

CHEERS!

Raise a glass to this tasteful West Metro basement remodel. The wine aficionado homeowners envisioned an entertainment space where they could savor their extensive collection with friends.

Wise Design transformed an awkward space into a wine cellar with custom floor-to-ceiling display racks. The tile surface against the garage foundation wall keeps the space naturally cooler than the conditioned entertainment space outside the insulated glass viewing door.  Meanwhile, two counter-height beverage fridges in the island bar ensure beer, white wine and soft drinks are handy and cold.  The back bar combines a Blanco undermount sink, Moen spray in spout faucet, slate backsplash and granite top. Triple pendant lights accent the natural cherry bar top against the darker Bordeau-stained cabinets.

Wise Design built out the entertainment wall in the carpeted lounge area to accommodate pumbing and speakers and to create a flat plane for the recessed television niche. The niche is sized to maintain proper ventilation around the TV.

The new bathroom features a large-format porcelain tile shower with a penny tile mosaic accent band and niche. The Kohler Levity shower door provides a contemporary backdrop to the traditional recessed panel vanity.

THE WORKS

GOLDEN VALLEY BASEMENT

This basement remodeling employs innovative design solutions to maximize headroom, comfort and functionality without compromising style.

Wise Design modified HVAC ducts, finished soffits with beadboard and installed Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring to gain precious inches of headroom.  It finished the central support beam without cladding, and wrapped the bottoms of structural posts to create functional drink rails.

Spray foam insulation provides maximum R-value in exterior walls. A gas fireplace insert improved the efficiency of the woodburning fireplace that had backdrafted and blackened the brick surround.

Special touches include the full-swing café door to the laundry, granite mantel and sills, tile bath with glassblock window, and under-stairs storage.

REMODELING PLUS, WITHOUT AN ADDITION

This Lake Minnetonka home had grown over time. Rather than engineer another addition or tear down the structure and start over as other contractors had suggested, Philip improved the existing space. His award-winning makeover incorporated a sunken wet bar in the family room that preserved the lake view. He also installed a large structural beam to remove interior walls and open the main level. And he annexed a portion of attic for a bonus bedroom. Philip had heard the homeowner’s mother loved butterflies. When he uncovered vintage butterfly wallpaper in an upstairs bedroom he framed a section to preserve a piece of authentic family history. Problem solving in the space, included leveling the sub floor and reversing the direction of the Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring at the stairway to reduce and mask the slope from years of settling.
